Our Aerial yoga classes are now up and running. Are you tempted ? Do you think it is for you?
Aerial yoga has become extremely popular over the last few years, and it’s not surprising why. Not only is it a whole lot of fun and a completely different experience from floor based yoga, but it’s also extremely effective too, and simultaneously relaxing, as you float above the ground.
Don’t worry about the hammocks, they can support over 1,000 kgs, they are made from a nylon material similar to what the military use for parachutes. The height can be adjusted so you just reach the ground in some postures. Taller people will need them slightly higher. We have foot and hand straps that increase the number of poses available
Have a look at this Pinterest Link to see the variety of different poses.
Aerial yoga can increase your flexibility as your body movements are not restricted by the floor. Your limbs have more freedom to move in any direction, including down, you can move your body into new positions and stretch muscles in a new way. Many of the poses work in much the same way as using straps, pushing that stretch just a centimeter further. Aerial yoga forces you to concentrate harder, as you need to focus on your balance and body posture in unfamiliar positions, this additional focus helps you get the most out of your class.
You may also notice an improvement in your core strength after a few months practicing. The increased effort from balancing, and the fact that the hammock gives you less support than the floor, means you are constantly supporting your own weight against gravity. There is a greater emphasis on using your upper body, shoulders and arms, as well as your core. This will help your upper strength and tone that part of your body.
Of course, after a tough workout, the hammocks can be opened out (like butterfly pupa) and you can breath deep like you are having a knap on a Sunday afternoon. Float into a deep meditation. Many people feel invigorated and happy after a class. 1 hour floating in the air, new experience and new achievements will do that
The classes will be held every Thursday at 5.45pm. We will supply all the equipment even the yoga mats to stand on
Your teacher Sandra has a wealth of experience, as her background is in intensive circus training, She will guide you step by step through the basic postures to more advanced postures.
